A copyedit is a technical edit which checks for consistency and correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
All suggested changes are made using either track changes in Word or suggested edits in Google Docs.
I use The Chicago Manual of Style for grammar and punctuation and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary for spelling choice unless otherwise specified.
I accept payments through PayPal.
Rate: $2.50 per 1,000 words, rounded to the nearest thousand.
Turnaround time: Two to six weeks, depending on the length of manuscript and number of corrections needed. (I can give a more specific time frame estimate once I know more details about your project.)
Copyediting includes the corrections of:
- word pairs
- word usage
- light restructuring of problem sentences
- commas, periods, ellipses, semicolons, apostrophes, dashes, etc.
- in character, location, and storyline details
- in spelling, capitalization, and punctuation choices
My copyediting services also include:
- applying the proper style guide (for books, usually The Chicago Manual of Style)
- creating a style sheet
- a minimum of two thorough read-throughs of your entire manuscript
How to know if you’re ready for a copyedit:
Your manuscript is nearly completed. You’ve applied feedback from your beta readers and are finished with making all your edits, and now you’re ready to have your manuscript edited for typos and technical errors. I will carefully read your manuscript twice through, marking suggested edits for you to approve.
Not quite what you’re looking for?
How my free sample copyedit works:
Send me the first 3,000 words of your manuscript and I’ll copyedit it for free. If you like my work, you can then send me your full manuscript and I will continue on with the job.
My sample copyedit is completely obligation-free and is a great way to see if I would be a good fit for your project.
Disclaimer: I do my best to leave your manuscript typo-free, but I am human and therefore cannot guarantee that I will not miss anything.
